It's Ladybug Girl!

Ladybug Girl is one of Lily's favorite book characters right now. I made her this outfit that she calls her Ladybug Girl outfit. The top is the Hilda top from Ottobre 6/07 #27, and the leggings are from the Farbenmix book Sewing Clothes Kids Love: Sewing Patterns and Instructions for Boys' and Girls' Outfits

She likes to wear her new outfit with the fairy wings from last year's Halloween costume for the full effect.

I'm finally sewing again. Yeah! Here is Lily with a new pair of pants from Ottobre 1/06, the ruffle pant capris. They have them in a knit, but I used a stretch woven with no problems at all. These are a very, very generous cut. It is hard to see the details on black, but they are a basic elastic waist with one wide ruffle at the bottom. Her t-shirt is from 4/04 and is the girl t-shirt. I finished the neck and sleeves with picot edge elastic.

Burda 7-2010 hat

I found that it ran small, and fit my 2-year-old DD perfectly with no adjustments needed. That happened to work out perfectly since she is the one needing a hat, but from the photos and other garments' size ranges in the magazine, I would have expected it to fit more my older kids (it would have been too small). In any case, I added a chin strap. I also changed the construction so that all seams would be hidden, by leaving a hole in the lining pieces, completing that seam by hand at the end ala the last Ottobre hat I made. I think that makes for a nicer finish than having the brim attachment seam covered by ribbon and such. I hope to get at least one more of these hats finished soon as she needs a couple more.

Rash guard shirt

Rash guard shirt

One more while I'm uploading to the blog. We got the swim shorts at Target, but I needed the rash guard shirt so I made one. The fabric is "Under Armour" supposedly, from a co-op. The pattern is Kwik Sew for Toddlers. Yes, toddlers. I made him a size 3, and he is nearly 8 years old. He is thin, but not that thin though. They are supposed to fit snug, and Kwik Sew runs really really wide so it worked. I added 5 inches to the length of the pattern before cutting. I'm happy with this one, and it cost me probably less than $3 in fabric. Woohoo.

Long time no blog, huh? I have been sewing though! Here is one item I like. I rarely take the time to get out the stuff for embroidery, but decided this shirt needed something. The pattern is the Farbenmix Quiara. I narrowed the shoulders for Lily and lined the hood. I hadded a big butterfly to the front. She loves it because it has a hood. :)

Lily's first summer set done

This is the "Piparminttu" jersey pinafore dress from the new Ottobre 1/2010 issue. It is the first sewing I have really done since Christmas, aside from mending some things and small items finished up that I started in November and December.

I found this dress to run very very wide. I actually narrowed it about 1/2 inch in both front and back prior to sewing, but it is still wide, wider than it actually looks in the picture. The lower armholes gape quite a bit. It is a cute style, but I want to narrow it more if I make it again.

Have I mentioned lately that I hate doing knit bindings? This striped ribknit stretched horribly and, even after steaming, it doesn't look great. Oh well, knowing Lily, it will be stained after a wearing or two anyway and won't matter.

Her leggings are "capri" leggings from Ottobre 1/07. I did like that pattern a lot and plan to make more of those. They are longer than capri on her now, but it is only February 1st, and these are for summer, so I have to make build in an inch or so of growth room at least. :)
